It probably has something to do with the mindset. Walking away implies a kind of resolution.to a problem. Running away is an open-ended problem in and of itself.

I did. He walked. He decided he couldn't keep hurting a- a friend, so he walked out.

[He doesn't know what York thought of him when he said "yes, I'll let you free, I'll get out of here", but it wasn't worth however that would have ended.]
