So.

As a first time Warden more or less mentoring a first time Inmate, there's this very important question that's been hovering menacingly near my head for the last few days like a demonic little helicopter and I would be remiss if I didn't at least ask it, even if I'm sure it's obvious to the more seasoned Wardens, Inmates, what have you.


...Is an Inmate's happiness more important than their graduation?

If you had to choose one, I mean.


And I think I should also ask to Inmates because I don't...like the unspoken divide and communication is usually an effective bridge over most divides..


What do you need from your warden to be happier?

Someone happened to tell me you're a dog person.

I'm trying to..rehome my dog, Digby. My Inmate is scared of them and it's probably best if Digby and I separated until my Inmate graduates. And I'd like to find someone to...borrow him, or take him, but if I don't find someone he'll have to go home and we've never been separated and I'm feeling a little...clingy.

We have a lot more then just that. A lot of our cases were helpin' people the police wouldn't like one woman was being stalked by a doctor who could detach his own limbs and make them follow her. It was stuff that makes people shutter.

I figured, sometimes it just has to be reminded and such.

We broke him down and buried him in 12 steel boxes puttin' them in concrete in a subway station so he couldn't hurt anymore innocent girls. That's what we do, we take care o' the things that go bump in the night to protect the people that would otherwise get swallowed up by it.

Well I completely misread that then. I'm not all that secertive about the work I used to do normally but as new people come I worry 'bout mentioning the whole demon hunting bit. It took a lot o' gettin' used too and learnin' to get demon blood and goo out of ones clothes is no fun task. Still helpin' people's an admirable thing.

You can mention it. There aren't...demons in my world that I'm aware of. But I...understand why you wouldn't lead off on that in the beginning of a conversation.

I was pretty open about it before when Angel was on the ship but as time passes and less people remember him it seems better to shy away from it. It's just my way.

That sounds like a pretty fantastic skill set if you ask me. Pies and unsolved murders makes you pretty cool.

He was here before me which is strange cause he was from years down his timeline. I'd been dead for him some two three years if I remember what he said right. And no man, theres quite a few o' us with friends from back home here. From me own world we had Buffy too, great girl, and the bartender Faith is also from back home.

Give yourself more credit man, I think their pretty on par.

I gotta say thats the best nickname o' Charlotte I've ever heard. I know how that is though a woman usin' a mans name as her nickname my ex-wife's name went by Harry. Pretty easy to be guessin' her name was Harriet, she'd rip your head off if you called her by anything but Harry though.

Well, that's...that's good, that's taking a bit of home with you wherever you go. It, um. I don't know if it's easier or harder being without the people you know. On the one hand you don't have your usual support, but at the same time I wouldn't...want them to go through some of the, uh. The rougher floods.


Really? You do? I mean. Thank you. I sort of...invented it. She was named after her father, who was a Charles and I just sort of...naturally progressed it to where I thought it made sense.

She wouldn't...do anything if she were called Charlotte. Lots of people call her that. But I was the first person to call her Chuck.

I didn't know them before hand, they were friends o' Angel's before he came to LA which is where we met. More or less. But they were both pretty cool. It's just me and Faith left now. She's good people. [ That Doyle's avoiding because the whole recovering alcoholic bit, he's a bit ashamed of what he had been doing in the bar behind Faiths back.]

I feel pretty much the same way, like Cordelia for instants, I wouldn't want here to ever have to deal with this place. As much as I'd love to see her again she doesn't deserve this place. I'd rather just meet new people and leave the past where it be.

It makes enough sense to not be too strange, besides. That story there makes it much more likeable. And if she went with it too all the better.

Faith. I don't think I've met Faith yet. I'll, um. I'll keep a look out.

But yes. The Barge, it. It isn't for everyone. It shouldn't be for anyone, but it is and it does its job and you can't...do anything but soldier on through it.
