Why do we have the death toll?

Does it teach us anything? Don't go doing what you do or you'll get punished for it? And why a week's worth of suffering? Doesn't death make you suffer enough? I hear it can be painful.


Why just...not have a death toll? Can any, um.

Is there anyone else on board who can stop a death toll from happening?

Everyone dies, men and women. The only statistics where death itself is concerned is what was populated in the field to begin with.

[silvestris]

Not everyone murders, and not everyone goes to the front lines. It's mostly men. Men are usually the ones taught about violence...we girls are just showed firsthand.

[She can't be so brusque with someone so...soft-seeming, though.] ...Doesn't seem like your field.

It is true. Gender stereotypes having to do with violence which in turn leads to greater harm towards women than towards men. I'm not sure the gender gap of 5.3 years lived longer for women as compared to men makes up for it in the long run since more men kill more women than the other way around.

Considering where we are - who we are - it's to be expected.

Well, where I'm from I suppose it is. You seem- sunnier than people I know.

I make pies for a living. I attribute at least half of my sunniness to that.

[silvestris]

Well, as long as you don't go Sweeney Todd with it.

I'm horrified by that reference, by the way.

And it wasn't Sweeney who baked the pies. He just provided the crucial ingredient.

I should have paid more attention. As long as you don't turn into Mrs. Lovett, then. You'd have no shortage of Sweeneys volunteering here.

You don't need to worry about that. I'm a vegetarian.

[silvestris]

I'd be off the hook, I hate meat pies anyway.

If I'm feeling homesick can I make a request?

This is the second pie I've made specifically for a member of the Bat family. Are bats predisposed towards pies?

[silvestris]

[She laughs] Mine was, if they were homemade.

He's gone, though. Dead. This is a memorial.

[deadly_ned]

I've heard of flowers on graves and stones on headstones but never a memorial pie. Pie is for the living. Typically. Unless this is an ancient Egyptian custom but I'm not 100% sure the ancient pharaohs had pies.

[silvestris]

[She laughs] I'll eat it for him, then. In his honor. Someone has to, right?

Do you ever eat your pies, or do you just make them?

[deadly_ned]

Exactly. Someone does. Why not you?


Oh, I never eat my own pies. I can't.

Of course not. That's disgusting and unhygienic.

Why don't you eat your product, then?

Oh...you know. You get used to eating pie, while you make pie, it's sloppy. You're literally eating up your own revenue.
