Just.

Just an informal head-count.

How many inmates don't like the rooms they've been given?

And how...can wardens move to change it to make the living quarters more habitable? Besides the bathroom....thing. This especially concerns unpaired inmates.

Inquiring minds wish to know. I'm thinking...Extreme Make-Over: Barge edition. And possibly sectioning off a budget for inmates to use to rearrange their rooms how they like it.

Thoughts...?

Other people. I don't want a line to see the great Cain Art Museum, you know?

[Okay now he's teasing.]

Come on by, then.

I want a pink wall.

Oh come on it's not that simple! It's gotta match something I remember, and the rest of the walls gotta be less frilly.

Well it'd be kind of hokey to hang my weapons in a completely pink room, wouldn't it?

[Fine. He's willing to be a little more honest, with Ned, because the kid tried to help before.]

My daughter wore a pink dress last time I saw her as a kid. Before she ran away. I want it to be a reminder to myself, see?

She hates me here. She still loved me, back then. I know, I'm not allowed to dwell on the good things from back then 'cause it hurts her but she's never going to be in my room so she's never going to see.

...and aren't you the one who's supposed to encourage interior decorating? Where'd the support go?

I can't fix it.

[And he's not defensive now, not joking or self-deprecating. After Cass's return he is completely convinced that he can only bring her more harm. It's Batman who can help her.]

There's no fixing the things I did to my little girl, Ned.

[He's quiet, and finally sighs. Ned wins.]

And what's a man to do, when he's been told to stay the hell away?

[He considers that, and smiles wryly.]

Help me find the opportunities? I'm no expert. Hell, I've only tried the one time...

She's been pretty upset. ...you know I bet she's never had a Hallmark card.
